‘Galatea’s Myths’ – A production by European Capital of Culture-Pafos2017

Dancecyprus presented the ballet production ‘ Galatea’s Myths’ by Italian choreographer Davide Bombana, Conductor Alkis Baltas with the bicommunal Cyprus Chamber Orchestra. Participation of over 20 dancers and 27 musicians from Cyprus, Germany and Italy with the support of the Embassy of Italy.

Music works by award-winning Estonian Composer Arvo Pärt: ‘Sindone’, ‘Sarah was 90 years old’, ‘Festina Lente’, ‘Lennart’, ‘Alina’, ‘Lamentate’, Summa’, ‘Fratres’ ‘Homage to Benjamin Britten’, ‘Mein Weg’.

‘Dancecyprus 10th Anniversary GALA ‘

After 10 years of successful productions, Dancecyprus celebrated with the ‘10th Anniversary Gala’ with Principal and Soloist dancers from the world famous Royal Ballet, Covent Garden and Royal Ballet of Flanders, Belgium. The programme included Fokin’s ‘Dying Swan’, Petipa’s ‘Le Corsaire’, Brabant’s ‘Dialoog’ and choreographies specially commissioned for this production by: Kristen McNally (Royal Ballet), Altea Nunez (Royal Ballet of Flanders), Ilaria Kalispera and Valeria Makri as well as choreographies from Margarita Makridou and Fouli Stylianidou.

‘TERPSICHORE DANCE’ – The Magic of Ballet – In collaboration with RIALTO THEATRE Limassol
Ballet production in collaboration with Rialto Theatre, for children ages 3-9 years old (and not only). Terpsichore is a little girl dreaming of becoming a ballet dancer. With the help of a magician, her toys come to life and introduce her to her first ballet steps in a magical way.

Nicosia: Strovolos Municipal Theatre 2 October 2014 Limassol: Rialto Theatre 3 and 4 October 2014 This production took us back to our roots and to the heritage left by Cyprus’ previous generations. With over 35 dancers and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra musicians, the choreography was a journey into the world of Adamantios Diamantis. Presentation Event ‘Understanding Giselle’
at the Dc Home, the PELEKANEO

This event was held as an educational aid prior to the screening of ‘Giselle’ at the Rialto Theatre, a live performance by The Royal Ballet with Natalia Osipova as Giselle and the role of Bathilde by Christina Arestis who is an Honorary Founder of Dancecyprus. It was presented by Tarsia Economidou and Catherine Dawson as a guide to discover why it is considered the greatest Romantic Ballet… Why the role of Giselle is the most sought after by ballerinas today… and to learn the historical background and gain an insight into the style…
Aspiring young dancers from the Dancecyprus Junior Company rehearsed parts of the famous choreography under tutelage of Vicky Kalla in corps de ballet repertoire of Act 2, with solos rehearsed by Frosso Hadjigeorgiou/Margarita Makridou and Ilaria Kalispera/Valeria Makris.

13 July 2013 – Dancecyprus Fundraising Dinner by the sea, which was kindly hosted by Miltos and Cleo Papadopoulou at their beach house in Zygi. Live music, violin by Charis Hadjigeorgiou and Nenad Boganovic on accordion. Fouli Stylianidou and Tarsia Economidou danced choreography especially produced for the occasion. Also present was Choreographer Davide Bombana and dancers for the production ‘Dancing with the Orchestra’ in collaboration with the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra.

May 2013 – Dancecyprus Junior Company Seminar in Pas de Deux

On May 12th, the Dancecyprus Junior Company completed the Pas De Deux Seminar, which was organised by Dancecyprus in collaboration with the Embassy of Israel and The Israel Ballet with great success. The lessons were taught by Mr Alexander Utkin, Principal Dancer and Pas de Deux Coach from The Israel Ballet with the Israeli dance students Shaked Heler and Gan Shay, who impressed us with their talent.

We would like to give our thanks to the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Embassy of Israel and The Israel Ballet for their collaboration and support. We would also like to extend our special thanks to Mr Ambassador of Israel in Cyprus and Mrs Harari, for their support and their interest to attend and watch the dancers’ presentation on the last day of the seminar.

April 2013 – Dancecyprus Junior Company Seminar in Danish Repertoire

Dancecyprus organised a dance seminar in Danish Repertoire for The Dancecyprus Junior Company (chosen student dancers from various ballet schools) with Anastasia Paschali, formerly at The Royal Danish Ballet Copenhagen.

With the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Dc Education Programme organised presentations in all towns with beautiful choreographies with 12 talented dancers from Dancecyprus Junior Company, showing the steps taken to make the transition from dance training in the class to performance on stage
Dc’s Educational Programme is an initiative aimed at providing school children with the opportunity to learn about dance, to develop an understanding and an appreciation of different aspects of ballet and to inspire a new young audience, who may not otherwise have access to dance.
Dancecyprus Junior Company is Dc’s student company, formed to nurture gifted students who aspire to a career in classical dance

‘Dance for a better life’
In collaboration with the European Commission Representation in Cyprus and the Press and Information Office, in the framework of ‘2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion’

Dancecyprus presented a programme chosen by Artistic Director Carolina Constantinou, with a variety of classical and contemporary repertoire with dancers from ballet companies such as Staatballett Berlin, Victor Ullate Ballet (Spain), Centre Choreographique National de Nantes (CCNN – France). Amongst them Cypriot professional dancers who excelled abroad, Natalia Krekou (Ballett St Pölten Austria and Moscow City Ballet), Dafni Mouyiassi (Formerly Bejart Ballet Lausanne), Anastasia Paschali (Formerly Royal Danish Ballet), Loizos Constantinou (Formerly Athens National Opera).
This year Dancecyprus had the honour of welcoming Andrei Batalov, First soloist of the Mariinsky Ballet (Kirov). Other dancers included: Gianluca Battaglia (Soloist at Victor Ullate Ballet – Spain), Vincent Blanc and Benjamin Lamarche (Soloists from Centre Choreographique National de Nantes (CCNN – France), Rainer Krenstetter (Soloist at Staatsballett Berlin), Francois Mauduit (Compagnie Choregraphique Francois Mauduit).
The repertoire consisted of choreographies from Petipa’s ”Le Corsaire” and ”Don Quixote” as well as neoclassical and contemporary pieces by Bejart, Brumachon, Dimitriadou Lindahl, Lao, Pandis, Tichy, Mauduit and Ullate. Carolina Constantinou has choreographed ”Echos” for Dancecyprus Junior Co with Evelthon Michaelides on drums.

November / December 2010 – Dc Photographic Exhibition

In collaboration with the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, Dancecyprus presented the Dancecyprus Photographic Exhibition at the EAC Head Office in Nicosia which was inaugurated by the First Lady, Mrs Elsi Christofia.

June 2007 – “WHITE MAGIC”

2007 White Magic

“White Magic” was a joint performance of a new work by choreographer Antonio Colandrea and the renowned concert pianist Martino Tirimo. Music by F.Chopin and W.A.Mozart. The dancers were: Demetra Demetriou, Mads Eriksen, Tiljaus Lukaj, Anastasia Paschali, Galatia Savva, Elsa Sabbatini and Alexander Staeger. Performances took place at Larnaka Municipal Theatre, Nicosia Municipal Theatre and Rialto Theatre in Limassol.

The jury was headed by Elisabetta Terabust (former Principal Dancer and Director of Rome Opera Ballet, La Scala Ballet and the Ballet of Teatro San Carlo, Naples) and Alessandra Celentano (Ballet Mistress at MaggioDanza).  Audition classes were taught by Bryony Brind, Antonio Colandrea, Lucia Geppi and Umberto de Luca.

24 September 2005- Nicosia Launch

Melina Mercouri Hall, Nicosia, with guest dancers from The Royal Ballet.

The Royal Ballet dancers appeared by kind permission of Monica Mason, Artistic Director of The Royal Ballet, U.K. Christina Arestis, Soloist, and Gary Avis, Character Principal, danced the Tango from “Facade”. Edward Watson, Principal, danced a commissioned solo choreographed by David Fielding to music by Handel. This was a world premiere.
